back to wednesday's child
100 300 Things About Me
- I was adopted at birth
- So was my little brother
- but from different mothers
- We looked just alike when we were young
- I know that my birth mother is Irish, English and German
- and probably from Louisiana
- But I'm a native Houstonian
- All I know of my birth father is he had red hair
- I was born with red hair
- which turned blonde then brown as I got older
- I’m a Capricorn
- I was born at approx. 4 am on ... a Wednesday!
- I'm one of the last of the baby boomer generation
- I’ve always been a night person
- Me, my brother, my father and grandmother all have birthdays within less than two weeks of each other
- My mother-in-law’s birthday is also one day after mine
- Christmas shopping has always been really stressful
- When I was a kid we would get one cake and one big dinner for me and my brother’s birthdays
- But his birthday was on New Year’s Day so we’d get to go out for New Year’s Eve to an adult restaurant
- Our birthday cake often had sparklers on it instead of candles
- My birthday dinner was usually lobster ;-)
- I’m 5’1”
- I’m not petite, though, I have actually an average sized frame
- I’m very short waisted, I personally think I have a few vertebrae missing and should actually be about 5’5”
- I’ve always had trouble finding clothing that fits properly because of that and I because I have wide shoulders
- I wear an 8 1/2 sized shoe, and used to be a 4A with a 6A heel
- because I have flat feet, though, now I can wear a medium
- I’m double-jointed
- I have green eyes with gold flecks
- I had 20/400 vision most of my life
- I never wore my glasses regularly till I had to learn to drive, though
- I just sat in the front of the class and squinted (if your glasses had big pink plastic frames you would too!)
- I didn’t know many of the names of the streets in my neighborhood until I started driving because I wasn’t able to see that far
- I got contacts when I was 18, but had to stop wearing them in my late twenties because of dry eyes and allergies so I got RK
- It worked great for about 12 years, but made me slightly farsighted instead and worsened my night vision, then I started having fairly severe problems
- I also had eye surgery for a retinal detachment when I was about 20
- When I was about 40 I had to start wearing glasses again for reading, then for distance also, oh well
- I hate wearing glasses again, and I can’t wear regular contacts because of the RK (I've read recently that I might be able to wear the really expensive, RGP lenses but haven't been able to be fitted for them yet)
- One of my biggest fears is losing my vision
- My vision is also screwed up now because I have MS
- I can pretty much pin the date down when I developed it (at age 23) but it wasn’t diagnosed till I was about 35
- But I was actually glad when they finally told me what the hell was wrong with me
- When I was 22-23 in one year I had: mononucleosis
- a major car accident
- got married (and divorced two years later)
- got pregnant
- miscarried because of a really bad case of PID (before I even knew I was pregnant)
- then had unnecessary surgery to make sure I didn’t have an ectopic pregnancy. All that in one year would traumatize anyone’s neurological system
- I take a lot of meds for my symptoms and other health problems, but only tried the actual MS shots for about six months
- they made me feel worse and it freaked me out to stick a needle in myself once a week
- I’m allergic to most inhalants (dust, grass, pollen, trees)
- and lots of foods (corn, eggs, oranges, strawberries, shell fish)
- But I can no longer take any antihistamines, though
- they make my face swell up and give me hives because of an allergic reaction I had to another medicine about 8 years ago
- I still eat some of the foods I’m allergic to anyway, I just itch ;-)
- I have a Mitral Valve Prolapse which makes my heart beat irregularly at times, it wasn't diagnosed till I was in my early 20's
- I also suffer from migraines
- Chronic Depression
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Fibromyalgia
- Osteoarthritis (which began in my early 20's)
- a Hiatal Hernia
- Tinnitus
- TMJ (and chronically bad teeth, I wore braces for five years but still have an overbite from grinding my teeth)
- Insomnia
- and Rosacea
- Which really pisses me off because I’ve always had perfect skin
- really... no acne, no wrinkles
- I’ve stayed out of the sun since I was twelve
- I stopped swimming then too
- I don’t like the water, and I don't like it in my eyes or ears
- Right after I stopped swimming my parents put a pool in our back yard
- I never used it (I told them not to get it...)
- I’m classified as a “Highly Sensitive Person”
- My hearing is overly acute
- But I have trouble understanding what people say often
- And misinterpret song lyrics
- I’m very sensitive to temperature changes
- and smells
- and taste
- and noise
- and light
- Crowds make me panicky
- I don’t like tight clothing or rough fabrics
- I’m also claustrophobic
- And I'm an emotional empath
- I'm way too aware of other people’s emotions
- I’ve never wanted children
- I’ve never baby sat, held or changed a baby
- My first husband said he didn’t want children either (until I got pregnant)
- My second husband doesn’t want or have any children
- I was a virgin until just after my 21st birthday
- Probably because my first big crush in junior high school was gay
- but he was my best friend
- And my big crush in high school wanted to just remain friends
- he was my best friend in high school and a few years after
- I usually get along better with guys than girls
- I was (and am) a tomboy
- I took a psychological test for a law enforcement job once and scored in the male range instead of as a female
- The only sport or exercise I've ever been really good at (and enjoyed) is weight lifting and bodybuilding. I have zero aerobic endurance, never have had, and bad feet
- I was a straight A honor student in high school
- I was also my high school female table tennis champion
- My best friend was the male champ (he beat me)
- I was an early 80’s club kid
- The New Wave club we all used to go to was formerly a 70’s disco
- it had a million dollar neon lighting system with fog machines and strobe lights
- It’s a rug store now (sigh)
- My favorite club outfit was a pair of black spandex pants, a zip front black shirt that looked like leather but was really shiny fabric with metal loops and rhinestones, and a pair of knee length black Zodiac boots with buckles
- I used to go to Rocky Horror weekly when I was in high school
- I was officially a cast back-up and got in free
- I was Magenta
- but I never had to perform
- The week before I moved into my first apartment I met a boy who literally stalked me at both jobs I was working until I agreed to go out with him
- he lived with me and we dated on and off for about 9 years
- He never asked me to marry him
- so I said yes to the first person who did
- I wish I wouldn't have
- He'd been married three time before and was seven years older than me
- Then boyfriend #1 came back around, all upset
- but still made no offers
- He was my “bad boy”
- He’s been arrested twice, happily I wasn’t dating him at either time
- but I learned a lot from him
- We used to go to fires together and bring the firemen donuts and coffee
- He hooked a police light bar up to my old Firebird and blew all the fuses
- I’ve had a gun since I turned 21
- I put it in layaway when I was still 20
- The guy at Oshman’s freaked out when he found out I had but was glad I didn’t pay it off till I turned 21
- I currently have two Smith & Wesson revolvers
- a stainless .357 and an airweight .38
- My first car was a 1979 (new) light blue Camaro
- It was stolen several years later and I got the Firebird (1976?) with a 400 hp engine
- then I floated it through flood waters which ruined the transmission
- I left it at the mechanic’s so long they transferred the title to them
- But I got it back (had it towed to my apartment)
- So I got a 1973 green Corvette with an L48 350 engine
- It was my favorite car (Bill Bixby had a '73 Vette on The Magician, I've loved them ever since)
- My ex-husband totaled it by hitting a parked car at our apartment complex
- I still think he did it on purpose
- He had a piece of crap old car, that threw a rod on the freeway when we were literally driving to pick up our next car, another new Camaro
- Which was totaled a few months after we leased it by a drunk driver
- and the insurance company had it rebuilt anyway . It never ran right after that, either
- But we sued the drunk who hit us and got an obscene amount of money
- and we bought two motorcycles and decided to start a business with the rest of the money
- I bought a brand new black 1986 Suzuki Intruder
- It looked just like a Harley, and was one of two bikes made that I could reach the ground from
- I never got a proper motorcycle license
- I was never very good at riding it but I looked really cool and had a black leather fringed jacket and black leather pants
- I still have them but they don’t fit anymore
- The poor Camaro was in another major collision on the freeway with a large chunk of metal that flew out of a truck in front of us the week before we moved out of town
- then it got repossessed
- then I got divorced and was left with just a motorcycle
- Which I traded for a Ford Mustang with electrical problems
- which I later traded for a 1978 Datsun 280Z with engine problems
- Both cars were standard transmissions
- I had to teach myself to drive a standard
- My boss at work basically dropped one off for me to drive and “told” me how to drive it
- After lots of gear grinding I eventually learned how
- Then my parents felt sorry (and worried) for me and bought me a 1991 black Cutlass
- which has had major engine and transmission problems since it was new
- I still have it
- It has less than 100,000 miles and has had three transmissions and the engine rebuilt several times
- I want a new car really badly :-(
- Preferably a sports car, I really miss V8 engines...
- I’m an above average driver, the fastest I’ve ever gotten a car up to is about 120 mph
- I used to get stopped a lot but have only gotten a few tickets (my driver's license had a photo of me in uniform and I often had a badge in my wallet for work)
- I don’t drive as fast anymore
- I’m not a good passenger in a car, I get motion sickness if I have to sit in the back seat
- I also can’t ride roller coasters, but I love rides that go really fast and around in circles (just no drops or rolls)
- I’ve lived in twelve different places
- All leased under my name (except my parents house)
- Now we own our own house
- Less than a mile from my parents
- We hope to stay here for a very long time
- My first job was as a library assistant
- Then I sold small appliances part time at the department store that my dad worked at
- His name was on everyone’s paychecks
- And my brother worked there also
- I tried to go to college full time
- And dropped out after less than two years
- Then I sold vacuums for a bit
- and worked as a security dispatcher at night
- then as a patrol officer full time at a hospital and medical building at night
- Then I left that company and worked as an apartment patrol officer for the largest (at the time) group of apartments in the country, usually from about 10 pm to 6 am
- Which was my favorite job of all time
- I wanted to be a police officer
- I applied to like half a dozen departments in Houston and Austin
- I always passed all the tests, did really well actually, but they never hired me
- Too small, female and too white (they actually told me that, I'm not kidding)
- After the car accident we moved to a small town in central Texas and opened a gym
- it failed in less than five months, not enough customers
- Then we moved to Austin and I went back to work at the same department store company as a store detective
- and got divorced
- and also worked part time at night as a patrol officer and dispatcher for the first security company I’d worked for in Houston
- After three years I got homesick and transferred back to Houston
- and worked in the sales auditing department as an internal investigator
- Which was my least favorite job of all time, mostly because of the people I worked with and the horrid monotonous work
- After five years of that hell I finally got a transfer to a buying office
- and got my favorite boss of all time
- But after a few years she left and the bosses kept declining and workload level increasing till finally I got an insane one and called it quits for the sake of my health and took a medical leave
- Which lasted two years until they finally realized I was still on their insurance payroll and they layed me off
- It’s the only time in my life I’ve ever been let go from a job
- Even though all the companies I worked for have had major layoffs
- Now I work at home and sell stuff on eBay
- I’ve completed over 10,000 transactions in five years
- I have 99.9% positive feedback
- I like it but it’s a lot of work
- I tried selling Avon online for a few months, but completely sucked at it
- I have owned 7 domains and current have 6
- So I have a lot of different email addresses
- and get a lot of spam
- I’ve had three different Macs since 1991
- an LC, a Performa and now a G4
- I don't have any tattoos but if I did I'd probably get the Bat symbol
- The only thing pierced are my ears and I didn't get them done till I was like 25
- I met my husband at a Dark Shadows party in 1990 a few months after I moved back to Houston
- It was love at first sight. We’ve been together every day since then so we use that date as our anniversary and we got married on the same date seven years later
- A psychic in Austin predicted that I would meet him and even described him physically
- We’re both collectors
- Our house, garage and attic are completely full, but we still keep buying stuff ;-)
- But it’s all really well organized, because of my OCD I’m an organizing freak
- I had two black Lab mix dogs and my husband had a black tuxedo cat when we met
- Now we have just one pet, a black over white smoke Burmese cat
- She’s my very first cat of my own (his cat was daddy's boy)
- My parents never let us have indoor pets when I was a kid because of mine and my brother’s allergies
- My brother smoked two packs a day and has hardly any allergies any more even though his were severe as a child
- I’ve never smoked anything (or taken any illegal drugs... really) and my allergies have gotten steadily worse the older I get
- But I don’t seem to be allergic to my cat :-)
- My favorite color when I was younger was purple, but now it’s cobalt blue
- My favorite fragrances are lavender and vanilla, but I can’t wear fragrance because of my allergies
- I don’t like anyone else to either, I can’t bear to smell perfume on people
- The only thing I can use that’s scented are some bath products
- My current favorite is Origins Lavender Vanilla bath gel
- I’m also a skincare product freak because of my Rosacea

- I have 9 binders full of my personal collection that I acquired in less than two years
- My favorite postcards are Halloween cards, the most expensive ones, of course
- Did I mention I have OCD? eBay’s a dangerous place for me...
- My worst vice is being bad at managing credit cards (they're all gone now, though!)
- I'm way too good at spending money, probably from working at department stores half my life. I did 95% of my Christmas shopping in one store with one trip last year
- My other vice is eating too much sugar and carbs, which make me physically feel bad (I'm currently doing Atkins.. again)
- I also collect 50’s TV lamps, books (especially vampire & gothic), vintage Halloween stuff, Joan of Arc stuff...
- and Addams Family, Munsters, Bewitched, Buffy, Angel and Charmed stuff
- and sometimes Elvira, Alice Cooper and Vincent Price
- I also used to collect heavily on Batman and Catwoman but I’ve managed to cut back on buying toys and action figures, they take up too much room
- And I sometimes collect poison bottles and death and post mortem photos and items
- I collected comic books until I was in my early 30’s then stopped
- I still have like four boxes of them left, some I'll never part with for sentimental reasons

- My favorite drinks are Evian, Tazo green iced tea, Earl Grey tea with real cream and sugar, Fonseca 10 year old Port, Starbucks Vanilla Latte, homemade cherry or vanilla Coke, and Kahlua and Coke
- I like a wide variety of music, right now I'm really into Acid Jazz and Chillout. About the only music I don't listen to on a regular basis are country, rap and reggae. I'll buy an album just from hearing one song from it playing in a record store.
- Other than making websites & playing on the computer my favorite hobbies are reading and playing with my cat
- My favorite author of all time is Shirley Jackson
- My favorite book of all time is “We Have Always Lived in the Castle” by Shirley Jackson

- I grew up obsessed with vampires and witches, primarily because of Dark Shadows, I believe
- It was my favorite program of all time
- Growing up I had crushes on Barnabas, Mr. Spock and David Cassidy
- I also loved Batman, classic Star Trek, Bewitched, the Addams Family, the Munsters... err, just visit my main website to see
- When the Batman movie came out in 1989 I wanted to be Batman
- I went to see it in the theater like 7 times
- I hardly ever go to the movies, so that’s really amazing for me
- I won a costume contest when the movie was new and was on the TV news in Austin because of it
- My husband and I were also on the local news here which made it to CNN when we attended a local drive-in movie theater closing
