UNITED, NOT DIVIDED - MARRIAGE VOTE
The fate of this Constitutional amendment will be decided in the next few days.
President Bush campaigned on a promise to unite us, not divide us. But now he's using the politics of hate in an attempt to distract us from the real issues - Iraq, the economy, funding for our schools. Bush wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples. This is unprecedented - never before has our Constitution been amended to take away anyone's rights. We believe:
Today we call on Congress and the states to require any electronic voting machine used in this election to produce a paper trail - one that allows voters to verify their choices and officials to conduct recounts.
And if you want to feel better about the future, watch MoveOn.org's new ad comparing Vice President Dick Cheney with John Edwards. There is hope ;-)

Yup, let's ignore everything that's REALLY wrong in our country right now, and find a convenient scapegoat. After all, gay people pose such a threat to "traditional" marriage! For the life of me, I just can't see how, but surely our great leader knows more. After all, he's the president and I'm not.
And we just might be one small step away from not having any right to disagree either. Or perhaps being a minority myself, I won't be "fortunate" enough to even reach that point in time.
And who are WE to expect proof of voting tallies? After all, we're mere citizens!
Posted by: CP on July 13, 2004 02:08 PMYes, it's getting pretty scary with the whole individual rights thing. I'm beginning to notice the waves of dissent from people getting tired of being placated, threatened and lied to by the government. Event the news media is starting to catch on (finally!). If it's good for ratings, hopefully they'll go after Dubya and his evil cronies.
The gay marriage "distraction" is ridiculous. Cheney's daughter is gay, for goodness sakes. I'm just worried they're going to get desperate and engineer a "real" distraction, like another bombing in the US. They're already discussing "what if" they need to delay the election, I wouldn't put anything past them...
